The Jud W. and Glenn Ellen Hines Scholarship Trust is a tax exempt private foundation.  Scholarships shall be awarded to those who have graduated from the Wakefield High School and plan to attend a post-secondary educational institution.  Preference will be given to applicants who show evidence of academic promise or justified need, or both.  Selection will be made without regard to curriculum, sex, race, color, creed or religion.

Each year an essay contest is held by the local lodge and grand lodge. This is for a chance to win a scholarship for a Kansas college.

The masonic Grand Lodge of Kansas will be holding an essay contest. This is for Junior and Senior in the tax-supported public high school of Kansas.

Winners of the local Lodge contests will compete for State SCholarships. Winners must enroll in a Kansas tax-supported accredited university, college, junior college or vocational-technical school to receive the award. Scholarships are forward to the student's school of choice (in Kansas) upon receipt of confirmation of their enrollment.

A total of $12,000 will be awarded in prizes. The first winner will receive $4.000, the second place winner $3,000, the third place winner $2,000 and the fourth place winner $1,000. Four honorable mention will be awarded $500 each.

All Junior and Seniors in the public high schoold of Kansas are eligible to participate. All are urged to contact their local Masonic Lodge members for details of the contest. Essay must not be longer than 500 words. only winners on the local level are eligible to represent a Lodge at the state level.

Clay Center Lodge #134 will sponser a Senior from Clay Center High School and another from the Wakefield High Schoolfot 2009-2010 school year.
